Daily off-server backups
Our backup system runs once a night at around 1 or 2 AM EST, although it can run at slightly different times on occasion. Typically we save the two most recent daily backups and then two additional backups which typically come from around the 2nd or 16th of the month. If you ever want to know exactly what backups are available at any given time contact me and I can give you a list and restore as needed.
The backups are stored in the same server datacenter in a different section from the regular server space. They are on different systems so they are separate from the regular servers.
InfiniteWP Off-site backups
As an extra layer of protection I also set up frequent database backups that are stored in the same server – often daily backups that are kept for up to 90 days. As a third layer of protection I use InfiniteWP to backup databases and monitor the WordPress sites I maintain. This is done on a completely different server via a different hosting partner at a different datacenter. I can restore the backups, download them and delete old backups via the IWP control panel. Infinite in another sense
For clients that want even more protection I recommend VaultPress. Their top tier plan also include malware scanning and Realtime backup – which means every single part of your site is backed up across the planet on 10 servers the moment you enter new content – you don’t have to wait for a scheduled backup. ANd they will store all backup for the life of your account. It’s an impressive offering that solves the incremental backup problem and it comes from the company that leads the WordPress open source project so I trust them.
